About the role
The Bengaluru Sustainability Forum seeks a proactive and creative Communications & Content Manager to lead its communications across all platforms and formats. This is a senior role: you will own the communications strategy, produce high-quality written and visual content, and manage BSF’s digital presence — all while working as a key member of a small, collaborative team.
You will work closely with the BSF Coordinators to translate strategy into a dynamic content plan in both English and Kannada — covering our website, social media, newsletter,YouTube, and event communications. The role also involves everyday operational tasks, including platform management, media archiving, and partner coordination.
A note on language Strong written and spoken Kannada is a firm requirement for this role as BSF is looking to enhance its audience engagement in Kannada. This is in addition to fluency in English.
Responsibilities Strategy (approx. 20% of the work)
Develop and lead a comprehensive, agile communications strategy aligned with BSF’s goals and audiences.
Identify and map relevant stakeholders in Bengaluru; develop targeted engagement approaches across platforms.
Implement data-driven decision-making using web traffic, social analytics, and engagement metrics.
Maintain and evolve BSF’s brand and design guidelines across all outputs.
Support the development of annual reports, concept notes, and grant communication materials.
Content production (approx. 60% of the work)
Conceptualise, write, edit, and publish content in English and Kannada across social media, newsletter, website, and YouTube.
Repurpose panel discussions, podcasts, and webinars into engaging short-form digital content.
Lead content development, promotion, and it’s execution for online and in-person events, webinars, and campaigns.
Produce or commission visual content (photo, video, graphics) aligned with BSF’s brand.
Write, edit and publish reports on BSF engagements and support media documentation at events, workshops, and retreats.
Operations (approx. 20% of the work)
Manage BSF’s digital platforms: scheduling, uploads, approvals, and performance tracking across social media, newsletter, and website.
Manage the BSF photo-video database: label, catalogue, archive, and back up media assets for easy retrieval.
Handle day-to-day email and website management, and coordinate with project teams and partners for content updates.
Required skills & experience
Fluency in written and spoken Kannada and strong command over English.
Ability to communicate big ideas about sustainability to diverse audiences.
About 5 years of experience in communications and content, with social media — candidates with strong portfolios and demonstrable skills may apply regardless of years.
Exceptional writing and editing skills across long-form and short-form formats.
Proficiency in social media management, analytics, and SEO best practices.
Proficiency in Canva, Adobe Suite, or similar tools for visual content creation.
Ability to reliably manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain high standards of accuracy.
Strong interpersonal skills; collaborative mindset; comfort working both independently and in a small team.
Demonstrated interest in sustainability, urban issues, or social impact communication.
Good to have
Background in journalism, mass communication, development studies, urban policy, research communication, or a related field.
Experience with WordPress or Wix for website management.
Familiarity with photo and video editing workflows.
