Bengaluru’s worsening water crisis, drying borewells, lake pollution, flooding, and dependence on the Cauvery are now part of everyday conversation. In this episode of the Climate Charche Podcast, Vishwanath S (Biome) is in conversation with Shreya Nath (Well Labs) and Ramakrishnappa (Traditional well digger & water warrior) to unpack how much of this is linked to climate change—and how much to the way we manage water in our city. ಹವಾಮಾನದ ಬಿಕ್ಕಟ್ಟು ವಾಸ್ತವವಾಗಿ ನೀರಿನ ಬಿಕ್ಕಟ್ಟು ಎಂದು ನಾವು ಹೇಳುವ ಅರ್ಥವೇನು?
ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹದಗೆಡುತ್ತಿರುವ ನೀರಿನ ಬಿಕ್ಕಟ್ಟು, ಒಣಗುತ್ತಿರುವ ಬೋರ್ವೆಲ್ಗಳು, ಕೆರೆಗಳ ಮಾಲಿನ್ಯ, ಪ್ರವಾಹ ಮತ್ತು ಕಾವೇರಿಯ ಮೇಲಿನ ಅವಲಂಬನೆಯ ವಿಷಯಗಳು ನಿತ್ಯದ ಚರ್ಚೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾಗಿದೆ. ಕ್ಲೈಮೇಟ್ ಚರ್ಚೆ ಪಾಡ್ಕ್ಯಾಸ್ಟ್ನ ಈ ಸಂಚಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, ವಿಶ್ವನಾಥ್ ಎಸ್ (ಬಯೋಮ್) ಅವರು ಶ್ರೇಯಾ ನಾಥ್ (ವೆಲ್ ಲ್ಯಾಬ್ಸ್) ಮತ್ತು ರಾಮಕೃಷ್ಣಪ್ಪ (ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ಬಾವಿ ತೋಡುವವರು ಮತ್ತು ಜಲಯೋಧರು) ಅವರೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸಂಭಾಷಣೆ ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದು, ಹವಾಮಾನ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಗೆ ಈ ವಿಷಯಗಳು ಹೇಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿವೆ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಯಲು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಅಲ್ಲದೇ, ನಗರದಲ್ಲಿ ನಾವು ನೀರನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇವೆ ಎಂದು ಸಹ ಇವರು ಚರ್ಚಿಸಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಹವಾಮಾನ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಯ ಯುಗದಲ್ಲಿ ನೀರಿನ ಸಮೃದ್ಧಿ ಮತ್ತು ನಿರ್ವಹಣೆ, ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ಜ್ಞಾನ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಮೂಲಸೌಕರ್ಯ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಗಳ ಪಾತ್ರ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಸ್ಕರಿಸಿದ ನೀರಿನೆಡೆಗಿನ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಕೋನ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಯು ನಗರದ ನೀರಿನ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ಪರಿವರ್ತಿಸಬಹುದು ಎನ್ನುವ ವಿಷಯಗಳನ್ನು ಚರ್ಚಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.

Ramakrishnappa
Ramakrishnappa is a prominent traditional well digger and water warrior from Bengaluru, India, known for his work in rejuvenating old open wells and constructing rainwater harvesting systems. He is a member of the Bhovi (or Mannu Vaddar) community – custodians of highly-skilled traditional knowledge on well digging, that is passed down from one generation to another.

ರಾಮಕೃಷ್ಣಪ್ಪ ಅವರು ಭಾರತದ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ನಗರದಿಂದ ಬಂದ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧ ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ಬಾವಿ ತೋಡುವ ತಜ್ಞ; ಇವರನ್ನು “ಜಲ ಯೋಧ” ಎಂದು ನಿಸ್ಸಂಶಯವಾಗಿ ಕರೆಯಬಹುದು. ಹಳೆಯ ತೆರೆದ ಬಾವಿಗಳನ್ನು ಪುನರುಜ್ಜೀವನಗೊಳಿಸುವ ಮತ್ತು ಮಳೆನೀರು ಸಂಗ್ರಹಣಾ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಗಳನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಿಸುವ ತಮ್ಮ ಅದ್ಭುತ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಭೋವಿ (ಅಥವಾ ಮಣ್ಣು ವಡ್ಡರು) ಜನಾಂಗದವರಾದ ಇವರು, ಬಾವಿ ತೋಡುವ ಪರಿಕ್ಷಮತೆಯನ್ನು ಪೀಳಿಗೆಯಿಂದ ಪೀಳಿಗೆಗೆ ವರ್ಗಾಯಿಸುವ ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯದ ರಕ್ಷಕರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
Shreya Nath
Shreya leads the Urban Water programme at WELL Labs. Her role involves mapping urban systems to uncover ways to build climate resilient cities. Shreya has over eight years of experience in sustainable architecture and urban planning. She has contributed to the design and execution of a wide range of projects ranging from large-scale, master-planning schemes to detail-oriented residential buildings.
She is also passionate about research in the field of sustainability and holds a Master’s in Sustainable Environmental Design from the Architectural Association, London. Her research is centered around strategies to adapt and respond to rapidly-changing climates and urban environments.
ಶ್ರೇಯಾ ನಾಥ್
ಶ್ರೇಯಾ ವೆಲ್ ಲ್ಯಾಬ್ಸ್ ನ ನಗರ ನೀರಿನ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಮುನ್ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ನಗರ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆ ನಕ್ಷೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸಿದ್ಧಪಡಿಸಿ, ಹವಾಮಾನ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಗಳನ್ನು ತಾಳಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವಂತಹ ಸಶಕ್ತ ನಗರ ನಿರ್ಮಿಸುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಇವರದು ಮಹತ್ತರ ಪಾತ್ರ. ಸ್ಥಿರವಾದ ವಾಸ್ತುಶಿಲ್ಪ ಮತ್ತು ನಗರ ಯೋಜನೆ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಎಂಟು ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಗೂ ಅಧಿಕ ಅನುಭವ ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಇವರು, ಬೃಹತ್ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳಿಂದ ಹಿಡಿದು ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮ ವಿನ್ಯಾಸದ ವಸತಿ ಕಟ್ಟಡಗಳವರೆಗೆ ಹಲವಾರು ಪ್ರಕಾರದ ಯೋಜನೆಗಳನ್ನು ವಿನ್ಯಾಸಗೊಳಿಸಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಗತಗೊಳಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪಾತ್ರವಹಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅವರಿಗೆ ಸುಸ್ಥಿರ ಸಂಶೋಧನೆಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಸಹ ವಿಶೇಷ ಆಸಕ್ತಿ ಇದೆ. ಅವರು ಲಂಡನ್ನ ಆರ್ಕಿಟೆಕ್ಚರಲ್ ಅಸೋಸಿಯೇಷನ್ನಿಂದ ಸುಸ್ಥಿರ ಪರಿಸರ ವಿನ್ಯಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ನಾತಕೋತ್ತರ ಪದವಿ ಪಡೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ತ್ವರಿತವಾಗಿ ಬದಲಾಗುತ್ತಿರುವ ಹವಾಮಾನ ಮತ್ತು ನಗರ ಪರಿಸರಗಳಿಗೆ ಹೊಂದಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರತಿಕ್ರಿಯಿಸಲು ಅಗತ್ಯವಾದ ತಂತ್ರಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಅವರ ಸಂಶೋಧನೆಗಳು ಕೇಂದ್ರೀಕೃತವಾಗಿದೆ.
